Mourning Jewelry Sterling Horse Shoe Locket and Key Charm

Offering a sterling Mourning Jewelry Horse Shoe Locket Charm, a timeless piece that combines the sentimental tradition of mourning jewelry with the symbolic meaning of the horseshoe for good luck, and the key on top. This locket holds precious woven hair on both insides, one side has a cover the right side does not, serving as a reminder of a loved one. There are well worn English hallmarks on the back, the letters J * S, h, anchor & lion. The locket shows wear from having been worn and stored for over a century. The charm is approx. 2" from key to bottom of locket by 3/4" wide and total weight is 8.28 gms.

This piece is one of many from a private collector that decided to sell after 50+ years of collecting Victorian Mourning Jewelry. She has no family and was afraid that someone wouldn’t know what the collection was and throw it away. She and her husband traveled to England every year to add to the collection. She is a long time customer of the antiques shop and she trusted us to purchase and find new homes for her treasured pieces.
